  • Grand Fire Brigade Demonstration & Fete, 24th July 1863
    On the 24th July 1863 a Grand Fire Brigade Demonstration was held in Leighton Buzzard. The event was chiefly organised to celebrate the formation of a number of new brigades in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. A number of fire brigades from the towns and villages of these counties attended the event and as well as the procession and display there was a concert, balloon assent, acrobats and event dinner etc. Read more...

  • Leighton Buzzard Industrial & Arts Exhibitions 1868 and 1875
    Two Exhibitions organised by the Leighton Buzzard Working Men's Mutual Improvement Society. Inspired by the Great Exhibitions in 1851 and 1862, these local events were, for a small market town of major significance, particularly the 1875 exhibition which was on a spectacular scale. Read more...
